Immerse yourself in the vibrant world of Hippocampe, a ready-to-wear brand born from the passion and heritage of a merchant community in the heart of Paris. Founded by Sydney Liu, raised by parents who worked in the garment industry, the brand finds its roots in the textile workshops on rue des Petites-Écuries and the dynamic exchanges of the fashion districts.

Little by little, Sydney learned the secrets of garment making, inheriting the traditions passed down by her seamstress mother. Her specialty is built around woven fabrics, one-piece jackets with sleeves, pieces that combine traditional craftsmanship with a contemporary aesthetic.

In 2002, at 53 rue Basfroi, Hippocampe was born, a shirt shop reflecting its founder: dynamic, enterprising, and resolutely forward-looking. Alongside his dedicated team, including the talented pattern maker Marjorie and his charismatic future right-hand man Omar, Sydney created a space where creativity meets tradition, and where stories are woven into every seam.

In 2005, Hippocampe moved to 56 rue Sedaine, marking a new chapter in its flourishing history. Under the leadership of Nancy, the human resources and accounting director, the brand continues to celebrate diversity and boldness, offering collections that embody the harmonious blend of Chinese influences and Parisian chic.

Twice a year, Hippocampe unveils its iconic collections, capturing the essence of French retail culture and craftsmanship. From the Snowball Trousers to the Ethnic Patchwork Trench Coat, via the Ursula Blouse and the BCBG Dress, each piece reflects the brand's vibrant soul and its commitment to elegance and originality.

In 2015, Hippocampe Paris opened two new stores, blending modernity and tradition in a setting that celebrates cultural richness and artisanal expertise. The historic boutique at 56 Rue Sedaine expanded to continue welcoming its loyal clientele, and a new store opened at the Fashion Center in Aubervilliers, offering a new immersive experience in the Hippocampe universe.
